Rivers United manager Finidi George has reiterated his side’s commitment to challenging for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) crown, insisting they will fight until the final whistle of the season.
Following a narrow 1–0 home win over Sunshine Stars last weekend, Rivers United sit second on the table, trailing current leaders Remo Stars by seven points with just four games remaining. Remo also secured a win in their fixture, defeating Shooting Stars 1–0 away.
Despite the points gap, Finidi remains optimistic and determined. "Four games, that is 12 points. We still have two home matches," he told reporters. "We are trying to pile pressure on Remo, we will not relent, and we will see how we can go away and get something out of the Kano Pillars game. You can see that on my face, I’m always positive."
He also acknowledged the challenge presented by Sunshine Stars, calling their performance disciplined and determined. "This win means a lot to us at this stage of the season to put pressure on other teams at the top," the former star added.
Rivers United are chasing their second league title and remain firmly in the hunt, albeit needing favourable results from rivals to close the gap.
